The fire on the Kerch bridge connecting mainland Russia and the Crimean peninsula under Russian control was reported by state-sponsored media in Russia. The road-and-rail bridge, which was inaugurated in 2018 and is intended to connect Crimea with Russia's transportation system, was closed to traffic.

In video remarks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said his forces’ latest offensive had liberated 2,434 sq km and 96 settlements in the country’s east.
