Train accident in Greece

Survivors share harrowing accounts of Greece train crash nightmare

Survivors of the devastating train crash in northern Greece have shared their harrowing experiences of the incident, which claimed the lives of at least 32 people and left dozens more injured.

Passengers on board the ill-fated train spoke of the "nightmarish 10 seconds" when their carriage overturned and burst into flames in a head-on collision with another train near the city of Larissa. The survivors recounted the horror of tumbling over inside the carriage, being burned by fire, and hearing the screams of others trapped inside.

Stergios Minenis, a 28-year-old passenger, described the chaos and panic that ensued after the collision. "For 10, 15 seconds it was chaos. Tumbling over, fires, cables hanging, broken windows, people screaming, people trapped," he said.

Another passenger who spoke to Skai television described the windows suddenly exploding, causing people to scream and panic. Fortunately, they were able to escape quickly from their carriage, but other passengers were not as lucky. One carriage caught fire, trapping several people inside.

The cause of the crash remains unknown, but reports suggest that one of the drivers may not have been aware of the other train's presence. The collision was so severe that the first four carriages of the passenger train derailed, with the first two carriages almost completely destroyed by fire.

Rescue workers have been working tirelessly through the night to find survivors and retrieve bodies from the wreckage. The conditions for rescuers are challenging, as the severity of the collision has made the operation difficult.

Despite the tragedy, the tireless efforts of the rescue workers have not gone unnoticed. Volunteers and emergency personnel have been pulling people out of the wreckage, searching for survivors, and dealing with the aftermath of the collision.

The survivors' accounts of the crash are a stark reminder of the dangers of transportation and the importance of safety measures. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families during this difficult time.
